Is Ben Affleck Not A Poker Game Star Any More?

Ben is not the kind of guy that would keep his skills to himself. One day he wins big and the next day he loses no less than $400,000 to one of the Hollywood big shots.

Was it a bad day for the actor or, as some spiteful critics suggest, Ben needs to play free online poker games for a while to brush up on his poker playing skills? Affleck started to get noticed for his poker skills after being tutored by Annie Duke. He won $356,400 in the $10,000 buy-in tournament last year and apart from that we hear about him winning here and there quite often. But one can’t win all the time. He lost this money to Universal Pictures president Ron Meyer, the man behind the “Bourne” movies starring Ben’s friend Matt Damon. The most curious thing is that Ben was trying to escape liability. In other words, he disappeared for a while before paying everything back.

It is still not clear whether the source is truthful or not, but these accusations followed the scandal around the secret poker games involving other A-list actors, including the long suffered poker criminal Toby Maguire. Toby was most widely accused of participating in illegal gambling, although a few other famous actors were mentioned in this case. Ben was not an exception, of course, as he seems to be on deck whenever cards are dealt. Ron Meyer is Maguire’s father in law, so these poker games resembled family dinners with card games. Nevertheless, Ron didn’t fail to take a small fortune from one of his buddies. After that Ben “started showing up again for more games”.

Ben’s fans as well as poker enthusiasts are wondering if he lost it over the course of a night or several nights or on one hand. Another moot point is the value of the hand he lost with. For some reason the “insider” didn’t have such details. Many are of the opinion that it was more likely to be 4 nights in a row with a $100,000 buy in.

A lot of people, including Ben’s fans, disapprove of this situation. They believe Ben could have found better ways of wasting his cash than playing poker games. Others argue that it’s his money and he can do whatever he wants. Ben probably doesn’t care too much about what people say. At the end of the day he played for a number of charity tournaments and proved to be a nice guy who is willing to help the poor from time to time.
